Autumn is almost here! There have been a few days this week that I’ve caught the first glimpse of that crisp back-to-school weather. It may just be a touch of what I remember from my days in Virginia but it was a pleasant change. Before we leave summer behind – don’t forget all the great items in the Summer Mini Catalog. My Craft Room

Ok so over a year ago, before I was expecting my first little one, I started to reorganize my craft supplies in a different space in the house. I was in one of the bedrooms but decided to move to the loft area. Well I think I got that lovely shade of Blueberry Buckle on the wall right before my priorities changed. We had to make room for baby!! He got the former crafting room that I was leaving (fortunately already painted a lovely shade of baby blue). Everything that was in there had to find a new home. Anyway, long story short, the baby came and I finally finished. Here is the result...It's not toddler proof yet but I've got a little while before I need to cross that bridge. All of my paper and card stock is stored vertically to the left. The various containers are home to my glitters, clear blocks, retired stamps, current SU stamps, retired accessories and current accessories, punches, adhesives, and tools. My ribbon and stamp pads are on the little white shelf for easy access along with some of my most favorite accessories. On my table I have a little trash can, a cutting mat, and my tool carousel with all of the items I need to keep handy like my paper snips and snail. I'm pretty happy with it and can't wait to get crafty in my new space.

Watercolor Techniques

In May my customers had the chance to try out Stampin' Up!'s watercolor wonder crayons. We used several techniques so I thought I'd share some with you here in case you wanted to give them a try yourself. You can check out the cards we made in the Idea Gallery.

1. Direct to Paper: Color onto card stock or watercolor paper. Leave as crayon or blend with Aqua Painter or Blender pen for a soft look. Use single or multiple colors and blend together.

2. Direct to Stamp: Color directly onto stamp with Watercolor Crayons, mist with water and stamp onto card stock or watercolor paper for a fast watercolor look.

3. Direct from Crayon: Pick up color directly from flat end of crayon with Aqua Painter or Blender Pen. Great for detailed areas and intense color.

4. Palette: Share colors or create blended colors by coloring crayon onto Stampin' Store lid, window sheet, or lid of Watercolor Wonder Crayons to create a palette.

5. Pulled Color: Color a portion of an image on card stock or watercolor paper and pull color from one area to another witha blender pen or aqua painter creating a fade effect that adds dimension.

6. Watercolor Wash Background (salted): Create a wash of color as a background or to ground stamped images. Use multiple colors for a background that fades from one color to another or light to dark. With card stock blend background with a Blender Pen. With watercolor paper you can use more water, so use an Aqua Painter or spray bottle with water to create more varied effects. Optionally, sprinkle table salt on wet background for a unique faded and speckled effect.

7. Watercolor Bleed: Two or more colors are allowed to bleed together to create multicolored images. Use with watercolor paper and Aqua Painter.

Watercolor Wonder Crayons

Have you ever wanted to watercolor but been unsure where to start because it seems complicated or messy? Watercolor Wonder Crayons are a great way to get started watercoloring as they are affordable, tidy, and versatile. There are many techniques you can do with Watercolor Crayons. Start with the simple technique of coloring a stamped image on watercolor paper and blending a couple colors together with a Blender Pen or Aqua Painter. Or try coloring directly onto a solid image stamp with the Watercolor Wonder Crayon, misting it with a bit of water and then stamping onto card stock or watercolor paper for a fast watercolor look. Because the crayons come in their own case you’ll find they are easy to take with you and use. The crayons come in the Stampin’ Up! Color Collections making it easy for you to create beautiful coordinating projects. I’ve found that coloring with these rich, creamy crayons and blending with a Blender Pen is really fast to do, but turns out looking like a million bucks!

Here's a tip for You...Color with the side of the crayon tip and rotate to keep the tip sharper.

If you're going to to give our Watercolor Wonder Crayons a try you'll also want to pick up some of our Aqua Painters (#103954). Have you ever looked towards the back of the catalog and wondered about some of the tools and gadgets hidden back there? Well those back pages hide some of my favorite tools! The Aqua Painters are just such a hidden treasure. Watercoloring becomes a breeze when you have the right tools! With the Aqua Painters you can watercolor without the mess and hassle of a cup or bowl of water that gets spilled on your projects. Each set comes with two Aqua painters, a medium (12 mm) and large (15 mm) tipped brushes. Aqua Painters are easy to use, clean, store, and take with you! With two sizes of brushes, all the techniques are covered. The larger brush is perfect for expansive watercoloring techniques like Watercolor Resist. The smaller brush is great for detail work and techniques like the Watercolor Highlighting. P.S. I recommend using Aqua Painters as they work best with images stamped on Watercolor Paper.

When I want to make a quick card that doesn’t look like a quick card I reach for my 2-Step stamps. Because the outline and solid images are designed to go together I can create detailed looking multi-colored images in two steps. Step 1: Stamp outline image in darker color. Step 2: Stamp solid image in coordinating lighter color. Done! The result looks like I put a lot of time into it, but I didn’t. You have to like results like that! The Flower Fancy set has 10 images that are perfect to use year-round for a multitude of occasions. Plus, when you want to play a bit, these images are perfect for a number of techniques like direct to stamp with Watercolor Wonder Crayons, Rock n’ Roll, Heat Embossing, and so many more!

Here's my favorite tip: Ink solid image stamps and mist with water before stamping to create a fast watercolored look.

National Donut Day!

My Digital Studio

I'm really enjoying "My Digital Studio!" So far I have found it very easy to use. I made this cute layout of my little one using one of the preloaded templates. It only took a few minutes to drop the pictures in and change the colors. When I print it out I can write in his information. I can print myself or use SU's printing services. I can't wait to learn more about this great program. It is user friendly right out of the box but looks to be a very powerful tool. Don't forget this software can do way more than just scrapbook layouts. If you missed my earlier post be sure to check this out. Love it!

Can pictures taken with your smart phone be a security threat?

Have you heard of geotagging? The company I work for posted the following awareness campaign and I thought it was important for me to share with you guys. I had no idea. This is one more item for my to do list.

If you have ever taken a photo with your modern Smartphone (such as an iPhone or Blackberry) and then uploaded the picture to the Internet, you may have put yourself at risk. Most smart phones now come with a built-in GPS device which can capture the location where the photo was taken and embed that information into the picture. The process is known as geotagging. Many people are unaware that the photos they have taken have been geotagged. As of February 2011, a popular photo sharing site called Flikr contained 135,453,348 geotagged items. With sites like Flikr, you can easily click on a map of the world to see the exact location each of the pictures was taken. Source: Apple iPhone Software

How Can Geotagging be Dangerous? An example of the type of risk associated with geotagged photos was made public in August 2010 when Adam Savage of the popular TV show “Myth Busters” took a picture of his personal vehicle and then uploaded it to his Twitter account. The caption of his post included the phrase “off to work.” Adam was unaware that the photo he had taken with his smart phone was automatically geotagged with his geographic location. Anyone on the Internet who came across Adam’s photo could determine the exact location of his house; they could also discover that he was not at home.

How many times have you uploaded pictures of your family vacation, house, new TV, or new car to your favorite social media site? This little bit of data provides the precise longitude and latitude of where the photo was taken, which can lead people to you, your family, and your belongings.

Scrapbooking Advice for First Time Moms

If you are like me it is hard to find time to get everything done that you want to do. My little one has finally arrived and as predicted by everyone around me - I have no time. I love my little guy and want to spend all the time I can with him but I also don't want to get behind on preserving the memory of him as a newborn. It is hard to find that healthy balance. I don't want to miss anything because I'm focused on things that have already happened. So, he's two months old and I've barely scratched the surface of recording memories. Thank goodness for pre-printed baby books. Yes, I had grand plans for his baby book which would be a scrapbook but those have gone out the window. And in its place is a pretty pre-printed book from Carter's - fill-in-the-blank (LOL). Advice for mom's to be - if you want your baby book to be homemade and not store bought get everything but the pictures and the journaling done before baby arrives - you won't have time for more than that for a while (I can't say how long but at this point I'm two months in...does 18 years sound right??). The best thing to do is just make sure that you have a system in place to organize photos and journaling that works for you. This way when you do have time to scrapbook (when you are 60) you won't have smoke coming out of your ears as you are trying to remember. Now I have to say it broke my heart to give up on "making it myself" BUT I would have been even more broken hearted if I had nothing because I couldn't find the time. And don't get me wrong I still plan on creating pages for him but my focus is shifting to doing what I can and not dwelling on what I can't.

So, since May is National Scrapbooking Month, I am planning to get some pages done. We've already got lots of things to scrapbook. I am going to love using my scissors and snail again but I'm also going to use My Digital Studio as well. This is a great month to give it a try. I recently joined a new training program with Stampin' Up!. Part of this program is completing challenges related to my business. I was challenged to share my Stampin' Up! story with others so I decided to share it with you. I joined Stampin' Up! after being a consultant for another stamping company. I was spending more on SU supplies and my demo asked me if I was interested and explained the business to me. I found out that I could make more with Stampin' Up! as a business so I switched companies and haven't looked back. I love stamping and creating projects for others. I love that I have a way to preserve memories for future generations to enjoy. With Stampin' Up! I hope you guys have been enjoying your summer. It always seems to go by so quickly so cherish every moment. July is almost half over (how did that happen?)! Stampin' Up has released a new Idea Book and Catalog that is full of great new stuff. I've also gotten a sneak peak at the upcoming Holiday Mini Catalog and I can't wait to place an order. I love this stamp! It's from the new Stampin' Up! Summer Mini catalog. This card was super easy to make. Tare some cardstock, a little ink here a little there stamp a few images and you're done. The "stitching" is simply drawn on using our white gel pen. Thanks for looking!

Sunny Day Simply Scrappin'

This layout and card were created using the Sunny Day Simply Scrappin' kit 115700. The additional items that I used were adhesive, fancy flower punch, jumbo outline alphabet stamp set and blender pens. These two projects were featured in my first workshop and were an exercise in bringing elements from your cards to your scrapbook pages and vice versa. You'll notice the bird accent on my layout became a very simple but fun card card. Once I decide what occasion I'll use it for I'll simply stamp a sentiment and drop it in the mail.

Well the walls are painted finally! It takes a really long time when you don't have a full day to devote to it. Basically I worked for a couple of hours each night before dark. I've very happy with the color. Initially I was afraid the blueberry buckle was too purple and the taupe was too institutional but after taking down the painters tape I think it looks great. Now I just have to move in all my supplies and decorate. Saturday will be a busy day for me!

Stampin' Up! Retiring Stamp Set Contest

The Stampin’ Up catalog year is coming to a close. Stampin’ Up has already let us know the colors that will be retiring, and on Tuesday, June 1st, they will announce the much anticipated list of RETIRING STAMP SETS. These sets will be available through June 30.

Demonstrators always try guessing which sets will retire, so I would like to have a contest with my customers so you can have fun guessing, too! My Retiring List Contest works like this:

Take a look through the current catalog and come up with your list of the Top Ten Stamps You Believe Will Retire (hostess sets don’t count, ALL of those will retire)
submit your list by e-mail to me no later than 11:00 pm EDT Friday, May 28th. The customer (demonstrators not eligible and US only) who has the highest number of correct guesses is the winner. In the event of a tie, the list that I recieved first will win!

On June 1st, check back here for the Retiring List AND the winner of the contest!

Prizes – what does the winner get? How about a $10 Stampin' Up! gift certificate to be used by June 30, 2010. I will also draw one winner at random of all the entries I receive, regardless of how many guesses were right for a second $10 gift certificate!

Craft Room Renovation! Color Update! Join Stampin Up!

I’ve been doing a bit of a “Renovation” myself and thought I’d share my progress with you. A few weeks ago after discussing with my hubby we decided to move my craft area in our home. I had laid claim to one of the bedrooms but I’ll now be moving out into what we call the loft area (formerly known as future man room – sorry sweetie). I also decided that the walls would need an inspirational shade of paint so I decided on the delicious shade of blueberry buckle. I am hoping to get everything finished by the end of the month, I’m a bit behind schedule (a little bug has put me out of commission for a few days) but still think it can be done. Pictures of the finished project are coming soon! The final goal is to have a place to create and play as well as a nice office area.

Stampin' Up has experienced a much greater than anticipated demand for some of our retiring colors.

Some re-inkers will be on backorder soon and orders will be filled as new stock comes in through May. In June, they will be availabe while supplies last.

For cardstock some colors are dwindling in supply and because of the nature of the manufacturing process, these will be harder to replace. As supplies run out, if you order a color of cardstock that is no longer available in smooth, you will get a pack of textured cardstock to replace it at no extra charge. This will also be while supplies last.

I encourage you to place your orders now to avoid disappointment in June.

Tell the Story...

Welcome to my blog! I hope you enjoy visiting my site and check back often. I have just begun my stamping and scrapbooking business and I’m so excited to share it with you.

This opportunity has opened the door for me to be able to teach something again. I've always enjoyed teaching and training as a craft but haven't always had the right opportunities. This allows me to fulfill my inner needs in a way that I haven't been able to in the past.

Plus, in these tight times who couldn't use a little extra cash here and there? I'm doing something that I enjoy by providing a service and product to others that is second to none.

Finally, one thing that has become really important to me is to "Tell the story.” Have you ever looked through your mom's or grandma’s pictures and wondered "When was that taken? - who is that? - Where were you then?” Sometimes the person is there to give you the answers but more often than not - it is too late. The memories that go with the pictures aren't always going to be available. Scrapbooking is a way to make sure that future generations, your children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews know the stories behind the photographs.

"A picture's worth a thousand words but you cant see what those shades of gray keep covered you should have seen it in color."

Scrapbooking, telling the stories that go with the pictures is our way to add "color" for future generations.
